Nahaharap sa malaking pagsubok ang mga chapters ng Kabalikat sa Baguio City. Kung matutuloy, isang malaking Operasyon ang ipagkakatiwala sa Kabalikat. Inassure ng punong tagapagtatag na susuporta ng buong lakas ang mga karatig puok kung sakaling matuloy ang malaking operasyong naturan. Siniguro ng may akda na kahit na ang mga malalayong chapters ay handang magbigay ng suporta maipagtagumpay lamang ang naturang operasyon. Hihilingin ang mga grupong may ambulansya at utility vehiclles na kakailanganin sa malaking operasyon ay itap kagaya rin ng nakaraang Centennial Celebration ang iba pang KB groups na kung saan nagailangan ng mahigit na isang libong kasapi ng Kabalikat pa sa parada. Maaaring maulit ang senaryong ito at sinisiguro ng pamunuang national na gagawing katangi tangi ang pagtitipong ito. Sa Kasalukuyan ay nire rehabilitate ang mga repeaters ng Kabalikat sa Northern  Luzon kung saan gagawing magkakaroon ng mga linkages mula sa Aparri, Cagaya, Kalinga, Isabela, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Bulacan at Manila. Sa Manila ay halos may kanikanyang repeaters ang transport groups ng Kabalikat: Servanthood, Matatag, Kaagapay, Global City 500, Makati at hindi pa kasama dito ang mga karatig probinsya tulad ng Bulacan, Laguna, Batangas at Quezon na may kanya kanyang repeaters. Subalit ang Kabalikat Global Group sa Region 5 ay may katangi-tanging repeaters na nag uugnay mula sa Sta Elena, Daet, Naga, Pili, Albay at Sorsogon. Ibig sabihin, mula Camarines Norte patungong Camarines Sur, Albay at Sorsogon ay walang putol na makakapag ugnayan ang mga Kabalikat na  kasapi. Ang grupong ito ay pinahintulutan ng punong tagapagtatag na makapagparami upang maipagpatuloy na mabisa paglilingkod sa Kabikulan lalo na sa ugnayan  kung saan ang komunikasyon ay napakahalaga sa bawa't bayan. Sa parteng Bisaya lalo na sa Cebu, Antique, Boracay, Camiguin, Samar at Leyte ay mayroon din kanikanyang repeaters kung hindi man kasing lawak at integrated ng Kabalikat Global Group ng Region . Kagaya rin ng Kabalikat Visayas ang Kabalikat Mindanao ay di rin pahuhuli. Sa Kabuuan, ang Kabalikat sa tatlong sulok ng Pilipinas ay nakahanda sa anumang pangagailangan darating upang lubusang mapaglikuran ang sambayan. Rescue groups begin “rescue” of burned areas of watershed

The city’s rescue groups are trying to stave off a possible disaster, using their rappelling skills and equipment to replant precipitous areas of the Busol Watershed which were damaged in three fires last summer. Former city administrator Peter Fianza quietly led volunteers of the City Disaster Coordinating Council (CDCC) and the Kabalikat Civicom in last Friday’s second wave of planting and watering fast-growing calliandra and ipil seedlings.

Fianza, the action officer of the CDCC, admitted it’s his way of thanking the city’s voters for electing him to the city council, saying he couldn’t afford to host a feast to celebrate the victory. With about five hectares burned, Fianza said it will take sometime before the work is finished, even with the support of 40 students replanting on less inclined portions under the city’s Special Program for the Employment of Students

Most of the seedlings destroyed were planted by children under the city’s on-site Eco-Walk environmental learning program.

In taking on the less dramatic task, the city’s volunteer rescue and emergency response groups may yet succeed in bringing to the fore the need to expand the official view of disaster seen as myopic by environmentalists.

Most often, disasters are only deemed as such if they have direct impact on human life and property, not when thousands of trees are lost in a fire, noted an official of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

“A community is declared a calamity area based on human lives and properties lost or damaged, but not when a forest is lost,” the official said. Declaration of a calamity area allows government agencies and local government units to use funds for rescue, relief and rehabilitation work.

“The members of the CDCC and other rescue groups see the rehabilitation of our watershed as crucial in the long run as their saving lives during emergencies,” Fianza said.

Groups which would like to sign up for the reforestation work may call the CDCC at 442-1900 to 5 or the information division of the city mayor’s office at 442-2502. Seedlings used in the forest rehabilitation are provided by the city environment and parks management office through its nursery at Pacdal. – Ramon Dacawi.

Yan po ang mga katagang malapit na nating marinig sa darating na eleksyon at marami po sa ating mga Filipino ang siguradong magpapalitan ng ating mga koro-koro hinggil dito, ang iba may negatibong reaksyon at ang iba naman ay positibo ngunit mas marami pa ring nag-hahangad ng salitang PAG-BABAGO. Sa mga taong nag-hahangad ng salitang pag-babago ay masasabi kong kulang ang kahit na milyong-milyong salita lamang kung wala ang salitang kooperasyon. Bilang mga Filipino kailangan ang bawat isa sa ating mga Botante ang patisipasyon sa pamamagitan ng PAG-BOTO. Dito ay maipapakita natin na tayo ay hindi manhid at lalong hindi inutil sapagkat naipapahayag natin ang tinatawag na Demokrasya sa pamamagitan ng malayang pag-boto.

Ngayon, ano nga ba ang nararapat na ikonekta natin sa salitang PAG-BOTO? Karapatan o Obligasyon? Karamihan sa ating mga Filipino ay puro sariling kapakanan lang ang iniisip, lagi nating ipinagsasandalang tayo ay kesyo mahirap lamang, hindi nakatapos, wala tayong pakialam dahil hindi naman tayo pulitiko, gusto natin walang gulo, etc.. na kung saan ay masasabi kong mali! Sapagkat bawat isa sa atin hanggat tayo at ang ating mga pamilya ay nakikinabang at nakaapak sa lupa ng ating bansa ay may kinalaman sa bawat pag-ikot at pag-babago nito. Kung kayat tayo ang responsable sa ano mang pag-babago nito sa pag-unlad man o sa pag-lubog. Hindi po reklamo ang kailangang maging kuntribusyon natin sa ating mga kina-uukulan bagkos kooperasyon. at isa po ang kooperasyon sa PAG-BOTO! Opo ang PAG-BOTO ay isang obligasyon ng bawat isa sa atin. 

Naalala ko nung mga panahon na nag-aaral ako sa isang unibersidad, may isang guro na nagtanong sa akin hinggil sa sagot ko na may kinalaman sa pulitika. Tinanaong nya ako, "Ano bang mapapala namin kung boboto kami tulad ng sinasabi mo, basta ako neutral.?" Sa harap ng mga kaklase ko nasagot ko ang titser ko na " Sir, kung lahat ng tao ay mag-iisip katulad ng iniisip mo e talagang walang mangyayari sa hinahangad nating pagbabago." 

Tandaan po natin na ang pagbabago ay laging nag-uumpisa sa sarili. Kung alang-alang sa kapakanan ng nakararami at ng kinabukasan ng buong bayan bakit pa kailangan mag-dalawang isip? Kung maari po iwasan po natin ang madalas na pag sabi na tayo ay 'neutral' sapagkat ito po ay kasagutan ng mga taong umiiwas sa pagkakamali na kung saan nag-papakita ng kaduwagan "playing safe" po kumbaga. Ang pag-kakamali po ay normal sapagkat dito po tayo natututo upang maging tama ang ating susunod na desisyon. Ngunit masasabi ko rin na ang paulit-ulit na pagkakamali 'kuno' ay hindi normal bagkus ito ay kawalan ng concern sa kapwa o tamang pag-iisip. Isipin po natin na sa ating mga BOTO nakasalalay ang kapakanan natin, ng ating mga pamilya at ng mga susunod pang henerasyon. Huwag po nating sayangin at abusuhin ang karapatang ibinigay satin ng Diyos na magkaroon ng awtonomiya o pag-kakaroon ng sariling Gobyerno, matuto po tayong mamahala, makikoopera at simulan sa ating mga sarili ang tinatawag natin o ninanais na salitang "PAG-BABAGO"! 

Noong nakaraang eleksyon ay masasabi ko pong nakita ko at napansin ang Kooperasyon nating mga Filipino. Maraming nag-boto ultimong yung isang taong di magamit ang kamay at paa ay nagawang mag-boto sa pamamagitan ng bibig, at ang mga naka-wheelchair ay naka-pagboto rin. Ito po ay nag-papakita lamang na karamihan sa atin ay tumutupad sa ating responsibilidad bilang responsableng mamamayan.

 

Sa kabuuan, ang PAG-BOTO ay Obligasyon at Karapatan na dapat nating isa-isip, isa-puso at isa-buhay bilang partisipasyon sa ating pamayanan. Ang pag-boto ay masasabi kong pag-sunod sa desisyon ng Diyos na tayo ay nararapat lamang na magkaroon ng tinatawag na GOBYERNO.

Mga kababayan, mga kapwa ko botante, lumabas po tayong lahat sa araw ng botohan at matalinong pumili ng kandidato na sa tingin natin ay karapat-dapat sa pwesto. Sa mga bumoboto, sa mga nakilahok sa eleksyon, at sa mga taong nakikisimpatsya sa halalan, Proud po ako sa inyo! Sa mga deserving at walang halong pandaraya na mahahalal Goodluck and God Bless! Asahan nyo po ang aking Kooperasyon!

Why Volunteer?

Marami nagtatanong kung bakit gusto ko ng community service especially sa pag sali ko sa sa KABALIKAT CIVICOM. Simple lang naman ang sagot ko "this is my way of life". Ang makatulong po sa mga nangangailangan depende sa kakayahan kong tumulong lalong lalo na kung hindi ako nag-iisa.

Masarap pong maramdaman ang makatulong sa iba at alam nyo bang naniniwala ako na lahat ng ginagawa natin sa mundo ay may katapat na reward or consequences depende sa ginagawa natin.Bilang myembro ng KABALIKAT CIVICOM, proud ako sa bawat adhikain ng grupong ito na makatulong sa karamihan hindi lang sa mga nangangailangan kundi pati na rin sa mga taong naghahangad na makatulong. Iyan ay dahil naibabahagi nila ang dala nilang swerte na sa bawat magandang pagkilos ay may kapalit na magandang premyo.

Sa punto pong ito nais kung ibahagi sa inyo ang aking nabasa mula sa website ng kabalikat Civicom-Metro Cebu Chapter na nagsasabi ng Beneficial effect ng volunterism.

The Beneficial Effects of Volunteerism

1.) Volunteerism defocuses self-centeredness. It tones down personal problems and worries as the work ahead focuses on helping others.

2.) Seeing others grateful and happy for the services we do is exhilirating to the soul.

3.) Volunteerism makes us feel more useful in life when we see others feel the benefits of our works.

4.) Volunteerism is sharing. It is an extension of our christian learning when we share with others our resources such as time, effort, money, talents, and skills.

5.) It helps us see the meaning of life when we serve others. "Service to humanity is service to God" which is imprinted in the logo of Kabalikat Civicom.

6.) It allows us to see our good sides when we see ourselves doing for the good of others. It is a deep expression of the soul, and refreshment of the spirit of man.

7.) Volunteerism benefits everybody around us, especially the community where service is rendered.

8.) It attracts others and help them realize their good potentials when they see volunteers in action. It is good to know that there are people around who truly cares.

9.) Service done for the upliftment of others is an act of God done through us. Happy is the community where volunteers abode. 

10.) The good things we do will always come back to us.

Sa palagay ko'y yan na ang SASAGOT ng aking kasagutan sa mga tanong ng marami tungkol sa aking pagtulong sampu ng aking mga kasamahan.

Summary of SUMVAC Accomplishment Report

KABALIKAT CIVICOM

BAGUIO CHAPTER

Every year, communication groups in Baguio City are conducting their summer vacation operation to assist the tourist in coordination with City Disaster Coordinating Council. A Bayanihan and Volunteerism is being practiced by these communication groups in order to give help and support to the people and City Government Of Baguio City.

We, the KABALIKAT CIVICOM had also conducted and volunteered for the SUMVAC operation with an A.O.R at Camp John Hay Rotonda as our Comand post and part of DPS Compound, South Drive, Green Water, Military Cut-off until the entrance going to Hillside and Scout barrio Subdivision Station 4. as our assigned area of responsibilities. Coordination to other Com Group has been coordinated such as for Medical, Crime and for traffic enforcement.

On the First day of our SUMVAC operation March 28, 2010 KABALIKAT CIVICOM-BAGUIO CHAPTER had already encountered an incident about traffic enforcement. With the help of our communication gadget through our radio the incident was automatically coordinated with the City Disaster Coordinating Council and everything that must be done followed. There were two incidents of "Banggaan" (no fatalities) but just resulted into "areglo".

Most of the tourists were asking for their destination here in Baguio City and as a part of our operation we provided the Baguio City Map from the Department of Tourism. Traffic enforcement has been properly managed and tourists has been properly served. In that situation we proved to our selves how responsible we are as volunteers.

Generally, using the communication gadgets, banners and other facilities the mission for SUMVAC from March 28-April 4, 2010 has been accomplished by the operatives of KABALIKAT CIVICOM-Baguio Chapter..

KABALIKAT CIVICOM BAGUIO CHAPTER ATTENDED THE FINAL MEETING ON SUMVAC 2010 OPERATION

Seems all systems go for security measures during the Holy Week in this SUMMER CAPITAL OF THE PHILIPPINES as thousands of tourists and visitors are expected to troop here and spend the five-day Holy Week break.

Volunteerism here in Baguio City is alive and active as the City Disaster Coordinating Council Conducted the final meeting late afternoon today March 26, 2010 for SUMVAC operation this year.

Agenda talked about includes: Acknowledgement of Participants, Updates on the letter of intent, Reports of Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) with their operational plans, Problems on power supply in area of responsibility (AOR) answered by BENECO, Cleanliness drive, and other matters.

Just like the past years, the KABALIKAT CIVICOM-BAGUIO CITY CHAPTER wholeheartedly participated the SUMVAC to show the real meaning of volunteerism especially to this kind of occasions. The letter of intent and confirmation has been filed ang confirmed

Our Area of Responsibility comprises Camp John Hay Rotonda as our Comand post and part of DPS Compound, South Drive, Green Water, Military Cut-off until the entrance going to Hillside and Scout barrio Subdivision Station 4.

SUMVAC will start March 28, 2010. Number coding is suspended until May 14, 2010.
